Today, our friends at the A.J.H.L. Canmore Eagles announced the departure of Evan McFeeters, Assistant General Manager, from the team. Evan will be moving on to another coaching opportunity and we wish him the best of luck. Evan was an integral part of our minor hockey program. He worked tirelessly with players and coaches throughout his time with the Eagles to help develop and evolve the minor hockey program in Canmore. He will be greatly missed by our hockey kids and their families. Good luck Evan - we hope to see you around the rink when you are in town.
Canmore Minor Hockey Board of Directors
Evan asked us to share the below message with the membership:
"To All Canmore Minor Hockey, the Players and their Families;
Over the past five years, I have had the remarkable pleasure to work very closely with the Canmore Minor Hockey Association. The relationships that have been built with the players, coaches, managers, parents, and Board of Directors have been fantastic and I am thankful to everyone for allowing me the opportunity.
I have recently accepted a new coaching position away from Canmore and will be re-locating for the upcoming hockey season. Accepting a new position away from Canmore was a very difficult choice for me to make. I am hopeful that this new opportunity helps me improve as a coach and as a teacher, as I continue towards future aspirations in my career.
It was certainly an honour for me to return to my hometown in 2015 and have the chance to give back to the same minor hockey association that was provided to me while I was growing up in Canmore. I feel very privileged to have worked with all of the young players in the Bow Valley and to have been able to watch each of them progress as hockey players and as young people in the community.
The Canmore Minor Hockey Association has evolved amazingly since I started my playing career in Canmore into what has been built for today’s players. That has been made possible by the extremely dedicated and passionate people that lead the association in all of the various roles from executives, coaches, managers, and volunteers. The current Canmore Minor Hockey leadership group has the right perspective on youth sport and works very hard to ensure that playing hockey in the Bow Valley is a positive and rewarding experience.
I want to thank the past and present Board of Directors, currently being led by Mike Hay, Adam Macleod, Reid Solodan for helping shape an exceptional partnership with the Canmore Eagles Junior Hockey Club. The relationship that the two organizations share is undoubtedly special and truly rare. Both organizations know the importance of working together for the betterment of hockey in our community and I am grateful that Canmore Minor Hockey has been so open to working closely with the Eagles Junior Hockey Club. I am confident that continued partnership between the Junior ‘A’ Eagles and the Minor Hockey Eagles will stay strong for the benefit of the youth players and both organizations.
A special THANK YOU to all of the young hockey players in the Bow Valley. Thank you for always coming to the rink with a smile, giving your best on the ice, accepting my coaching, and most importantly having fun on the ice. The players made each minute on the ice together enjoyable and fun. The energy the players had was contagious and gave me the motivation to help them as best as I could. I am going to miss the fist-bumps and the high fives at the rink and throughout the community, and I am going to miss the Eagles game nights seeing the line-up of young players cheering the big Eagles onto and off of the ice.
Canmore and the people in the community will always be special to me. Thank you all again for giving me an opportunity that I will always cherish, Go Eagles Go!"
